31 Days of Make Believe: Meet Marissa, Day 13
If you've ever seen "Maraco" online it very well could be Marissa. The handle is a combination of her and her husband's name.
Her blog, Mama Sparkles is a place where she writes about the “sparkles” in life. She does this through reviews, giveaways, pictures, random thoughts and personal anecdotes.
*Now for the Make Believe Part*
What did you always want to be when you grew up as a kid? Why?
I always wanted (and still want) to be a children’s book author. I loved the fact that I could transport myself to another world just by scribbling a few words on a page. On a similar note, I also wanted to be a ballerina (this one actually came true) because I could become another person when I danced. And I think it would be pretty cool to be a detective because I love solving a good mystery!
What is your favorite fairy tale and why?
Snow White. She’s not only beautiful outside, but inside as well. There’s a sweetness and innocence to her and I love the way she interacts with the dwarves. Her yellow dress that she wears in the movie is also my favorite.
It is the night of the big ball. The one you are destined to marry is among the crowd, so you’ve dressed your best. Describe your outfit.
I’m wearing my yellow chiffon dress with a midnight blue ribbon around the waist. It’s got a touch of sparkle on the top. Oh, and don’t forget the sparkly nylons. Simple, yet effective.
Your life has been selected to be featured in an upcoming fairy tale style movie. What is the title and premise?
My ordinary life? Really? Hmm, let’s call it “Fairy House.” Let’s pretend that I’ve become more and more discouraged with life. I have all these hopes and dreams that just aren't working out. One day, I’m in my backyard and I build a fairy house (you know, out of sticks, pebbles, tree bark etc ). After I finish, it becomes a magical house, where I can actually step inside and everything is perfect. It’s beautifully furnished, impeccably clean, packed with food, books, everything I’ve ever wanted. And it cleans itself and cooks all my food for me. It’s my dream house. So I start spending all my time in my secret house, thinking that it’s making me happy. But after a while, I realize that it’s not. The house completely takes over my life and I don’t even know who I am anymore. It doesn’t help that people have started noticing something strange about the house and are trying to destroy it. I try to get away from the house, but I can’t. Then I meet a magical creature living in the house who befriends me and with a few sensible words and a little touch of magic, sets me straight. Eventually, I learn a valuable lesson that perfection by itself does not equal true happiness. I need to have faith in my dreams and believe in myself. I need to work to make that happen. Together we crush the house and bury it. After that’s done, I look up and I see my own house before me – the one that can become my real fairy house if I make it so, and a place that I can truly call home.
Maybe it’s a little cheesy, but I’m a sucker for all that “Hallmark” stuff. Perhaps once I fleshed out all the details it would sound better…
You need to be rescued. Where are you and what is going on around you? Describe the scene as your hero approaches.
I’m probably in the kitchen with a dinner fiasco. It’s a special day (maybe my husband’s birthday or our anniversary) and I’m trying to cook a special meal. I keep mixing the wrong ingredients, food is falling off the shelves, the cookbook is getting drenched, there’s a small fire burning, and my toddler is laughing his head off at me. Then my husband comes home with a gourmet meal for two…er, make that two and a half. My hero. Bless his heart.
