31 Days of Make Believe: Meet Lorelei, Day 28

Lorelei is the ClevelandMom "because that’s what I am" she says.

On her blog, Cleveland Mom, Lorelei blogs about living, working and raising a toddler boy in Cleveland, Ohio. Lorelei says, "I share my opinions on places we go or eat, offering advice on places I think are kid-friendly, plus posting about events or discounts I am aware of as they come up. Plus a bit of personal reflection, rants and raves thrown in."

*Now for the Make Believe Part*

What did you always want to be when you grew up as a kid? Why?

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a mermaid. Ok, I guess that’s not technically “what I wanted to be when I grew up,” but it is what I wanted to be. Since my first name is Lorelei, and I’ve always loved being in the water, I was inspired by the movies “Beach Blanket Bingo” (there is a mermaid character whose name is Lorelei) and “Splash” to aspire to this goal. I would spend hours daily in the apartment swimming pool each Cleveland summer swimming my little heart out, sometimes with a diving ring around my ankles so that my legs were more like a tail (yes, really, I did this). The closest I ever got to my goal was working as a lifeguard through college.

What is your favorite fairy tale and why?

My favorite fairy tale is…Little Mermaid. Uh, did you read the answer to the last question? ;) Duh. I dunno, does that count as a fairy tale? Though I am admittedly annoyed by all the women getting saved by men in fairy tales. My favorite grown-up fairy tale is “Wicked”…because, well, the witch kicks butt.

It is the night of the big ball. The one you are destined to marry is among the crowd, so you’ve dressed your best. Describe your outfit.

Hmm…the future hubby is there eh? And it’s a ball. And I’ve always been a huge fan of corsets. If I could have my way, I’d get to wear one of those gorgeous outfits Kate Winslet wore in the movie “Titanic”. Probably the red and black number she’s wearing when she contemplates throwing herself off the back of the ship because her fiancee and mother are jerks.

Your life has been selected to be featured in an upcoming fairy tale style movie. What is the title and premise?

Make sure to check out my upcoming movie, “Diary of a Doctor’s Wife.” The poor young maiden meets a poor young med student and falls in love. One day, the poor young med student marries the maiden then turns into a handsome doctor and then have a beautiful little baby prince together. Will the mommy decide to stay-at-home or find the mysterious work-life balance? What will mommy and toddler do this week while the hubby works 12 days straight? And will she be able to lose ten pounds in one week before being whisked away to Hawaii by her knight in shining armor…ahem…hubby (with toddler in tow)?

You need to be rescued. Where are you and what is going on around you? Describe the scene as your hero approaches.

Spoiler:

Scene from “Diary of a Doctor’s Wife”

Mommy ends up in the hospital for surgery and wakes up groggy and confused and in pain. The hubby appears out of nowhere (through the door actually), to comfort the mommy. The hero...er...hubby, drives 150 miles in the course of the day, so that mommy can recuperate. First, taking the mommy to the hospital at 6am for surgery, returning home to get the toddler and grandma, driving back to the same neighborhood as the hospital to drop the toddler off at daycare, driving back across town to drop grandma off, then driving back again to the hospital. Which brings us to the above scene. The hubby then heads home for a brief nap before returning to the hospital to see mommy, then picking up the toddler, then picking up grandma…again…then returning to the house to drop them both off and finally, back to the hospital again to pick up the mommy. The hero then waits patiently with the mommy as she waits to be released and brings her safely home to her family.

Sorry, it’s hard to make believe sometimes when your real life seems so often like a fairy tale.
