#30DaysofGood: A Positive Challenge

I'm always on the hunt for things that inspire me to make the world a better place. So when I was scrolling through my Twitter feed this morning, I came across an interesting hashtag that read #30DaysofGOOD. I also noticed the word "challenge" which immediately caught my attention.

GOOD is an organization I've been following for a while now because their mission is simple. They support the people, groups, businesses and organizations who want to "live well and do good." Sounds right up my alley these days.

I have a friend who has a mantra that she lives by to the best of her ability: "Want to feel good? Do good." I've done my best over the years to live up to her example. Let's be honest, some days are better than others. Especially lately. But if there is one thing that I know above everything else, it's that when I help others or do some general "good" in the world, I feel better. It takes me out of me, out of my head, out of my pain. It makes me forget what I'm facing these days. It helps me put one foot in front of the other and move forward which is absolutely crucial.

So it makes sense that this tweet caught my eye. Intrigued, I clicked through to find out the story.

Here's the deal: GOOD is running a 30 day challenge this month to connect with other people. So far, they're on the third day and the challenges so far have been to send someone a postcard, have a conversation with a service employee and share an old photo with a friend. Simple? Obviously. And I love it. Doing good doesn't always mean donating a ton of money to a group or jumping on a jet to help refugees somewhere (although those are awesome things and kudos to you if you do this). I love the focus of this because it challenges you to look at your world immediately around you and see what kind of a positive impact you can make. Positive living is made up of the little things, the daily tasks you complete to make someone else's life easier or a little better. The little things add up. Trust me.

So I'm going to keep an eye on GOOD's Twitter stream and see what else they suggest. In the meantime, I'm going to go buy a postcard.

What can you do today to connect with the people around you?
