Writer's Block

The greatest enemy of novelists, poets, journalists, and bloggers alike. The blank page (or screen) stares at you almost menacingly, doesn’t it? It taunts you with the urgent need to write, but you have nothing to say. It’s incredibly frustrating. But instead of succumbing to it like I normally do, I’m going to write about it.

The same thing happens with crafters. We get an idea, a surge of inspiration, a whole truck load of motivation and then, just like that, it’s gone. You have no idea where it went. In fact, you don’t know where it came from either. It’s very flighty that way.

The best part is that crafter’s have all kinds of names for things like this. Quilters call them UFOs (unfinished fabric objects) and I prefer the half-scraps (those layouts you just can’t complete). No matter what you call it, it’s irritating, especially for artists. You know that your work completes your very sense of being. It fills your soul and you feel “off” when you’re not in the midst of your art.

So, I just keep trudging. I know that every time this hits, it will eventually leave and I’ll be back into the groove again. So I’ll take this time to get my new craft room organized (or maybe at least painted) and get ready for when the itch hits me again!
