31 Days of Make Believe: Meet Melissa, Day 1
Welcome to 31 Days of Make Believe!
I truly hope you enjoy reading these posts as much as I have enjoyed putting them together.
Our first blogger on this month of fun is Melissa (aka CEO of Domestic Affairs). When you see her online, you’ll probably recognize her from her typical screen name of Starmgm. Melissa says, “My initials are MGM and when I was a little girl I wanted to be a start. I had dreams of Broadway. Now the only drama that I experience is that of my on and two year old daughters!”
Melissa is a stay at home mother of two girls who makes daily attempts to stay sane. Melissa says that her home is “Where lofty goals meet a dose of reality! Who knew staying at home with a 1 1/2 and a 2 1/2 years old would be so fun, crazy, stressful and dressing all at once? Gone are the days of primping and looking fabulous. Now I am thrilled if I have on clean clothes and remembered to put on deodorant. I knew I forgot something...again!” Be sure to stop by Melissa’s blog at Domestic Engineering and say hi!
*Now for the Make Believe Part*
What did you always want to be when you grew up as a kid? Why?
Once upon a time in a land far, far away, from diapers, dinner, and daughters there was a little princess with long red hair and freckles. The little princess often times would sit for hours in front of the mirror perfecting her crocodile tears. She was proud that she had mastered the art of the single tear drop that would silently cascade down her right cheek. She had memorized lines from almost every one of her favorite books. Her audience of dolls was always riveted when she would perform. Visions of stardom twinkle in her head. Her name up in lights, her dressing room filled to the brink with everything pink, her adoring fans.
What is your favorite fairy tale and why?
Long flowing red hair that looks fantastic both wet and dry, a clam shell top that fits like a dream and a tale…bliss. The Little Mermaid, the Disney version (not to be confused with the original where the mermaid turns into sea foam) was always my favorite. I do have a soft spot for characters with red hair. The thrill of meeting your prince, the gut wrenching decision to leave your family, and the happily ever after ending make me just want to sigh. The classic fish out of water tale, always a classic!
It is the night of the big ball. The one you are destined to marry is among the crowd, so you’ve dressed your best. Describe your outfit.
I am attending the big “Beach Ball”. I am looking fab in my before kiddos 20 year old body. My abs are tight, there are no varicose veins, and everything is where it should be. My iridescent clam shell top is hugging my perfect perky chest. I am wearing a beautiful pale green silk sarong that softly billows in the breeze. My feet are adorned with light as a feather diamond accented flip flops.
Your life has been selected to be featured in an upcoming fairy tale style movie. What is the title and premise?
Mother Hood …who needs Robin when Mother is there to calm the grumpy, crabby , tantrum throwing toddlers in town.
Mother lives in Suburbs of Sherwood Proper where she single handedly calms the wrath of toddlers in her path. She posses a magical calm that tames the most troublesome of tantrums. In this endearing tale of passion and suspense, Mother meets her most challenging of tasks…Maiden Marion. Poor Tuck has been at wits end due to his daughter’s behavior, will Mother be able to calm the two year old tyrant destroying the city?
You need to be rescued. Where are you and what is going on around you? Describe the scene as your hero approaches.
The following story is based on an actual event minus the hero!
The flight was delayed for 4 hours. We finally boarded at 8:00 pm. The girls were sleepy, one years old Claire tried desperately to get comfy, Ella age two was sprawled over our laps. My husband and I both sighed in relief. I was holding Claire, she finally fallen asleep. We had been in the air for about 20 minutes. Then it happened...she woke up abruptly and hurled all over me, the seat, the floor, the blanket. It was everywhere and we still had two more hours to go. On a positive note I did have a spare change of clothes for both girls. So yes... I sat on a wet seat and covered in vomit praying to God that the time would fly by. End of story? Nope it gets worse. We are about to land, I am feeling a bit giddy and then the plane pulls up. We hear over the intercom, "there was a dead animal on the runway...we need to circle until it gets cleaned up". Son of a -! All of a sudden, Ella starts whimpering in pain, and then starts crying, "My tummy… poo poo coming out, poo poo coming out." Then we smell it, it over powers the stench of vomit. Her leg is wet; it is running down her leg. We can't do anything about it until we land. We circle for 35 excruciatingly long minutes.
“Then a hero comes along with the strength to carry on, and you cast your fears aside, and you know you can survive.” (Thanks Mariah). The flight attendant swoops in to save the day. She picks up my poopy daughter and offers to take her to the bathroom to clean her up. Meanwhile the pilot announces on the intercom that if you had been vomited on and pooped on in the duration of the flight then it was in fact your lucky day! You have won a trip all expense paid trip to Cancun. Woo Hoo. After we land, the flight attendant returns with my daughter in a beautiful new Janie and Jack outfit smelling like lavender. In Ella’s pudgy little hands she is holding our two free airline tickets.
