I Don’t Even Know What Day It Is

If I had a nickel for every time I saw or heard an ad that mentioned “uncertain times” I would be rolling in some serious cash. Yes, right now, life is very uncertain. As we watch portions of the country reopen and we wait to see what happens, there is a lot of fear and apprehension. Because the bottom line is WE DON’T KNOW.

At best, we are all just making educating guesses about what’s going to happen.

But isn’t that how things have always been?

How many times have we been afraid of something (or on the other hand, completely certain of a pending outcome) and turned out to be completely wrong.

No one has a crystal ball. No one has all the answers.

Life feels very out of control these days.

We have no control over COVID-19.

We have no control over what the government decides to do.

We have no control over those who refuse to abide by the CDC guidelines.

But what you do have is control over our reaction.

Maybe not your knee jerk reaction, but your ultimate reaction.

Let’s be real - I don’t even know what day it is today.

Some days I am crazy productive and the kids are crushing it in online school and even the dogs are cooperating.

Other days I am a blubbering mess.

Both are great.

Because both of those mean that I am in the present moment.

Even when that moment is less than stellar.

Don’t worry about not learning a new language or writing the book or starting the business right now. Unless you want to and you are able.

Don’t worry about gaining a few pounds from stress eating.

Don’t worry about “what the neighbors will think” if you get the mail wearing a mask.

Don’t worry about not knowing what day it is.

You do you.

And if what you need is to do something bold, do it.

If what you need is to reach out and ask for help, do it.

If what you need is to binge watch something on Netflix, do it.

But ask yourself this truly important question - “What do I want right now?”

Most women go days, weeks, months… even years… without asking and honestly considering this question.

What do I want right now?

Do I want to binge watch Netflix? Or am I using it to procrastinate on something important?

Do I want to take a break today? Or do I want to avoid the fear of trying something scary?

Do I want to learn this new skill? Or do I want to prevent others from criticizing me for “wasting this time”?

When you ask yourself what you want - and you REALLY listen to the answer - you just may be surprised what comes up for you.
